It is festival weekend again in Cary  Ritmo Latino — right down the street on Academy, so visit them both. Our entertainers on this date will be a selection of performers who will be appearing later in the day at the Ritmo Latino Festival to be held on Academy Street in downtown Cary. News from the vendors this week:

• Parker Farm and Vineyard will be at market this Saturday with bagged lettuce, buttercrunch lettuce, salad mix, kale, cauliflower, green onions, fresh herbs, eggs, goats milk soap, potatoes, beets, squash and possibly some carrots.
•  Boogie bean coffee roasters will not be able to attend the farmers market over the Memorial Day Weekend,(next weekend) so we are offering specials that will make it easier for everyone to get what they need for the next two weeks. 
  All of our 1 pound bags will be $11.00, or you can get two bags for $20.  We will be brewing a light roast, a dark roast, and a decaf coffee.  We will be selling iced coffee, iced americanos, iced lattes, and iced mochas.
• Tiffany(Parker Family Farms) will be at market this week with our pork AND her beef.  She loves raising and working with cattle and now offers the end product to you.  She’ll be glad to answer any questions you have about her beef.I know some of you are wondering about the chickens. We’ll they aren’t quite ready. We tried raising them soy free and they have really been growing slower. Hopefully next week we will have chicken.
• Melissa’s Mutt Munchies will have her old favorite – bacon, as well as the new favorite – chicken jerky.   She will also be whipping up something new.

News from the vendors this week:

• Salem Gardens will be at the market this week with a variety of annuals and perennials. Look for sunloving, draught tolerant euphorbia and blue daze. Many of the new perennials are starting to bloom and one of Michele’s favorite is the Arizona Apricot Gaillardia. If we’re lucky we’ll have some blooms on the Tickled Pink Dianthus for saturday. It’s always a challenge deciding what to bring to the market. Please let me know any special request by friday morning and I’ll bring if I have. For Mothers Day if you’d like a special container garden made let me know by Thursday and I’ll bring to market. I have a few very nice ceramic pots in stock for potting. Happy gardening! Michele

BUT, someone forgot to remove an item, probably purchased in Canada for a small boy, from one of the bags brought to Donna this past Saturday. Our entertainment this week will be Motley Tones – The Motley Tones (singing pirates) washed ashore at the Blackbeard Festival in Hampton, VA in 2010 after being part of the Musicians Royale for 4 years prior. They have emerged as one of the more popular local street shows, entertaining adults and children alike with their unique blend of classical and folk harmonies and off-kilter sense of humor. The group consists of Flintz Tone (aka Greg Tarsa, baritone), Belle Tone (aka Shelly Holczer, soprano), Copper Tone (aka Cindy Clark, alto), Reggae Tone (aka Kat Tarsa, alto) and Fire S. Tone (aka Yance Covington, bagpipes & percussion), along with occasional shanghaied guests. • The heat has been turned on and the question is what can I plant that is draught tolerant? Salem Gardens will have portulaca and blue daze…lovely plants that don’t mind neglect. We’ll also have an assortment of unusual perennials that are tolerant of hot dry conditions…blue haze euphorbia and ascot rainbox euphorbia to name a few. Don’t forget Mother’s Day is May 13th. Not sure what to give…Salem Gardens offers gift certificates too.
• Do you have extra plastic shopping bags? Be sure to drop by the Mind Your Beeswax/Go Green Totes booth. Donna Walker keeps busy making the beeswax candles and the recycled plastic bag tote bags. She is always in need of your extra plastic bags to create the totes. Bring your bags to her at the market on Saturday mornings.

This Saturday there will be special events for the children. Lynne Fischer will be at the market providing awesome face painting and fun balloon animals for children of all ages. They can also make a fun bracelet at the Queen Beads tent.
